PyCon US 2025 PyData PGH Recap
The incredible PyCon US 2025 wrapped up just over three weeks ago, and we wanted to reflect on the energy, ideas, and connections that filled the convention week. Thousands of Python users from around the globe gathered to learn, connect, and share, and we’re thrilled that our city could be part of that story.
🚀 Welcome to the Community!
If PyCon was your first experience with the local Python scene—welcome! If you're based in Pittsburgh or the surrounding area, we’d love to see you at an upcoming PyData Pittsburgh meetup. You can also find us on Meetup and LinkedIn for updates on future events.
For those who joined us from out of town, we’re equally thrilled you found us! Be sure to check out your nearest PyData chapter or explore regional PyData events across North America, Europe, and 60 countries around the world.
🎤 Hometown Heroes Success
We hosted eight incredible talks as part of our Hometown Heroes Hatchery Program, spotlighting local talent from Pittsburgh’s tech ecosystem. I had someone come up to me afterwards and say that these talks were of the same caliber (and even better!) than the rest of the conference! We couldn’t be prouder. Check out the presentation slides from the event below.
If you didn't get a chance to catch all of these talks, no worries! We’re working to turn several of these into full-length PyData Pittsburgh meetup talks. Interested in speaking yourself? Submit a proposal via our Call for Proposals!
🍻 Happy Hour Highlights
Our PyCon Happy Hour was everything we hoped it would be: a vibrant mix of local regulars, conference attendees, and new faces. Whether you came for the drinks, networking, or vibes—you made it special. This is exactly how we build a strong community. Thank you for showing up and showing out!
🙌 Huge Thanks to Our Volunteers
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped at the community booth. Your time, energy, and smiles made a huge difference—we couldn’t have done it without you.
🌱 New Chapter, New Energy
This was a milestone event for Doug, Nathan, and me—our first large-scale leadership effort and we're so thankful for the support we've received. As Patrick Harrison prepares for his move to Virginia this July, we’re filled with appreciation for his work and eager to carry the torch forward.
We’re excited to keep building a vibrant, inclusive community. We’re always looking for ideas and collaborators. Got a suggestion? Want to get involved? We’d love to hear from you. Reach out to organizers@pypgh.org.
Thanks again to everyone who made PyCon so special this year. We can’t wait to keep the momentum going—see you at the next meetup!
Warm regards,
~ Madison & The PyData Pittsburgh Community Organizers
