Hometown Heroes at PyCon US 2025: Call For Proposals
PyData Pittsburgh is excited to invite Pittsburgh-based Python software engineers, data scientists, researchers, educators, and other Python enthusiasts to submit proposals for the Hometown Heroes track at PyCon US 2025. We are seeking proposals for 30-minute presentations and 5-minute lightning talks that highlight interesting and innovative uses of Python.
Submissions are now closed. Thank you to everyone who submitted a proposal!
Presentations may cover any aspect of Python and a wide range of skill, from beginners to advanced professionals. This is a chance to share your insights at the largest Python conference in the world, with over 3,000 attendees, while it's right here in Pittsburgh! The submission deadline for proposals is Sunday, April 6, 11:59pm, with accepted proposals announced on Monday, April 14. Please note that you must be registered to attend the PyCon US 2025 conference to participate in the Hometown Heroes track, and speakers and attendees are responsible for securing their own PyCon tickets.
The Hometown Heroes track will take place on Saturday, May 17, from 1:45 PM to 5:45 PM, on-site at PyCon US 2025 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Hometown Heroes strengthens the relationship between PyCon US and its host city and forges connections within the local community that will last long after the curtain closes on the conference.
We look forward to your proposal, and to showcasing the work of Pittsburgh's Hometown Heroes at PyCon US 2025.
What is the "Hometown Heroes" Hatchery program?
A Hatchery program is a community-organized "conference within a conference": a half-day event held with the larger PyCon US 2025 schedule. PyData Pittsburgh is committed to making this year’s conference more connected to the city by providing a platform for Pittsburgh-based innovators. This event is a unique opportunity to connect PyCon attendees from around the world with the groundbreaking work happening right here in Pittsburgh.

What type of talks make for a good submission?
If you're from the greater Pittsburgh area and are passionate about a topic and eager to share it with the Python community, we want to hear from you! This is our chance to introduce an international audience to cutting-edge work coming out of Pittsburgh. Whether you're in academia, healthcare, startups, non-profits, or any other industry, the Hometown Heroes Hatchery is designed to highlight the diversity and innovation within Pittsburgh’s Python community.
For inspiration, check out PyCon’s "Topics and Advice" section. However, our submission guidelines are more flexible (no need for detailed breakdowns, strict timing estimates, etc). We are focused on sharing compelling ideas from Pittsburgh’s Python community in an engaging and accessible way.
Important Notes:
Speakers must have their own PyCon US 2025 ticket. If you require financial assistance please reach out to pycon-aid@python.org directly.
You may have multiple speakers, however each speaker must have their own ticket for the Main Conference (May 16 - 18, 2025).
AI-generated proposals (including those largely written by ChatGPT or similar tools) will be rejected without a second chance to submit.
You may submit more than one proposal, but note that more proposals do not increase your chance of being selected. We recommend refining a single submission.
All speakers must adhere to the PyCon Code of Conduct.
