Hi PyData Pittsburgh!
We are back from our August Holiday and have some exciting speakers lined up for the fall! While we finalize the set, we would like to promote another community event with our friends at the CMU’s Swartz Center. Please see below and register if you are interested!
Thanks,
Madison & Doug
South Park Commons and CMU’s Swartz Center are gathering the CMU and broader Pittsburgh research and deep tech community for a candid conversation on making the leap from academia to company-building.
Tuesday, September 15th, 4-6:30pm Gates and Hillman Centers, Pittsburgh
We’ll unpack how ambitious research becomes a product, a team, and ultimately an enduring technology company.
Featuring:
Damion Shelton, Associate Vice President and Executive Director of the Swartz Center, co-founder and Chairman of Agility Robotics, and its CEO from 2015–2024. He raised more than $200M and helped commercialize one of the first humanoid robots sold for non-research use.
Deva Ramanan, Professor in CMU’s Robotics Institute and former director of the CMU Center for Autonomous Vehicle Research. His award-winning work spans computer vision, machine learning, and autonomous systems.
Howie Choset, Kavčić–Moura Professor of Computer Science at CMU and co-founder of six robotics companies across surgery, manufacturing, infrastructure, and autonomous systems.
Moderated by Dylan Itzikowitz, Partner at South Park Commons.
South Park Commons is a technical community and venture fund dedicated to helping founders, researchers, and technologists figure out what to work on next—what we call the -1 to 0 stage of your career.
